Benefiting the M.E. Lyons YMCA “Strong Kids Scholarship Program”
In 2007 the YMCA “Strong Kids Program” provided over $138,000 in needs based scholarships so individuals and families could take advantage of programs and services provided by the M.E. Lyons YMCA in Anderson Township. These scholarships include, but are not limited to participation in summer camp, swim lessons and in some cases, full memberships.
The M.E. Lyons YMCA has been an icon in Anderson Township since 1972. Current membership is approaching 3000 families and services over 1200 individuals daily. The YMCA is a charity and success, as is the case for many charities, is based on dedicated hours generously given by volunteers. One such volunteer was Alan “Chip” Rosser. An attorney and partner with Strauss & Troy. Chip’s contribution to the M.E. Lyons YMCA has been everlasting.
In 1984, Chip, then President of the Anderson Barracudas, struck an agreement with the M.E. Lyons YMCA to make the facility their home. The outcome of this union has provided many young swimmers with an identity that is nationally known. Since 1984, the Barracudas have won 25 National YMCA Championships and they have become known as one of the programs to beat. This year, 2007, the Barracudas sport a high school GPA of just over 3.8, an awesome accomplishment.
In 2001, Chip passed away from a sudden heart attack at age 54. The Rosser children lost a loving father, Annette lost a dedicated husband and the community lost a great friend and leader. Chip’s involvement in the community also included volunteering in his church, being actively involved with the Anderson H.S. Athletic Boosters, coaching youth soccer and basketball and announcing high school athletic contests.
In honor of Chip Rosser, on September 15, 2008, the M.E. Lyons YMCA and its’ sponsors is hosting the Annual Chip Rosser Memorial Golf Outing at The Golf Club at Stonelick Hills in Batavia, Ohio. All proceeds will benefit the Strong Kids Program at the M.E. Lyons YMCA to carry-on Chip’s love of the community and the YMCA.

We hope this day will be enjoyed by all and be a financial success for the M.E. Lyons YMCA. Programs such as “Strong Kids” can only continue to achieve success through your support and the support of others in the community.
Sincerely,
